Apple : OS X Mavericks 10.9 goes live, Free download available

The tenth release of the OS X Mavericks kicked off at the Apple event today. This new version of the operating system focuses on technologies, features and apps.

OS X Mavericks 10.9

 The features highlighted at the event were :

  • Mavericks’ power efficiency enhancements- which means up to an hour longer web browsing and 90 minutes longer video playback on the latest MacBook Air.
  • Compress Memory- instantly compress inactive parts of memory and fit 6GB of data in 4GB of RAM
  • Integrated GPUs with dynamic allocation of memory depending on load
  • OpenCL support to allow integrated graphics processor to take tasks from CPU and run upto 1.8 times faster

Other features and apps include :

  • Enhanced notifications
  • Finder tags
  • Improved multiple display handling
  • New Maps app
  • iBooks.

OS X Mavericks will be available for free. Click here to download OS X 10.9 Mavericks from the App Store.

It is not only free on the App Store but also available to anyone running OS X all the way down to 2009’s 10.6 Snow Leopard.
